New Beginnings

The Cozorts have built a reputation in the Tulsa real estate industry for over 70 years. That legacy is being continued by Matt Cozort, a third-generation homebuilder, and his wife, Angela Cozort, who has burst onto the scene as one of Tulsa’s fastest-rising real estate agents.

Angela, in particular, has a unique story to tell. She built a successful career outside of real estate, rising to become the CEO of Montereau, a Tulsa-based retirement community. But the COVID-19 era caused her to switch gears, shifting into real estate. Now, she’s set on a path to become one of Tulsa’s most recognized agents.

The Road to Real Estate

Angela was raised in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, a small town in the center of the state. She went on to earn a degree in business administration and accounting from Bloomsburg University.

Angela began her working life as a Certified Public Accountant. That work brought her to Phoenix, Arizona, where she lived for seven years. Angela loved her time in Phoenix; the warm weather and continual sunshine were a welcome change from the dreary winters in the Northeast. But in 2013, she was offered a job to become the CFO of Montereau, bringing her to Tulsa. Angela, admittedly, had some hesitations about relocating to Tulsa, but after visiting the city, she fell in love.

“I thought, ‘I'm not moving to Tulsa.’ But the client I worked for encouraged me to fly out, meet with the CEO, and see my way around. I was a single mom and had considered moving back to the East Coast to be with family, and then this happened. I flew into Tulsa on December 28 with no coat, and it was snowing, but I had a really good feeling. I knew Tulsa was where I wanted to be,” Angela reflects. “I realized Tulsa is a great place to raise a family. It’s easy to find your way around, and I love all the food and restaurants. It has that small-town feel. There is one degree of separation with everyone, and when you're growing a business, having that network is very helpful.”

Angela was eventually promoted to become Montereau’s CEO. But in 2020, COVID changed everything. By then, Angela had met her husband, Matt, who was steeped in the homebuilding industry. With the compounding stress of working in a retirement community during COVID and the parallel explosion of the real estate market, Angela decided the time was right to shift gears.

“When COVID hit, I was in charge of 500 older adults and 400 employees. It was a really hard and confusing time for everyone,” Angela recalls. “The home industry exploded at the same time. I was really busy at Montereau, working a ton of hours. Matt was really busy, and we were sacrificing so much time together. We asked, ‘What can we do differently so we can be successful and spend more time together?’ The obvious answer was for me to get my real estate license, sell houses, and help with design.”

Finding a New Groove

Over the past three years, Angela has leveraged the Cozort’s reputation to lift her business. As an agent with McGraw REALTORS®, she primarily lists and sells the homes built by Cozort Custom Homes while also supporting with interior design services for the company. But Angela’s connection to Matt isn’t the only reason for her success. She’s a professional dedicated to being the best at her craft.

“I’m a hard worker. I'm social. I like to connect with people. And I want people to be happy. Your home is the most important place in your life. Being in a home that looks good and feels good is important,” Angela shares.

In 2023, Angela closed an impressive 24 transactions for $15 million, and now she’s looking to expand her business by starting a team. Whatever form that team takes, one thing is certain: Angela Cozort is committed to serving the people of Tulsa through real estate.

‘“I believe real estate is a great investment, and I want to build my legacy around that,” she says.

Beyond Real Estate

Angela and Matt have two children, Cruz (12) and Tennyson (10). Angela enjoys spending time at the lakehouse or beach, reading, volunteering, and hanging out with family.
