Generations Strong
Matt and Brittanie McCoy likely would have never met without their State Farm careers. Now, they run a thriving business while enjoying a fulfilling life at work and home. For Matt and Brittanie, it’s a State Farm love story.
Matt first began his State Farm career in 2009. He was born and raised in Tulsa, where he watched his father, Mike McCoy, run a successful State Farm agency. Matt always sensed that he’d follow in his dad’s footsteps.
“My dad was able to be at all of our activities,” Matt shares, “I saw the type of lifestyle that we enjoyed and that he was able to provide for us. Growing up, we were able to experience all the benefits and incentives that the company provided to its successful agents and their families. Most importantly was the impact that I observed that the business had on people in their time of need. I knew a career in insurance could add value to the community I served, as well as my family.”
Matt earned a football scholarship to attend the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of the 2000 National Championship team and earned a degree in business. After graduating, he worked in banking for a few years before starting his State Farm journey in corporate management. He opened an agency in 2009.
Meanwhile, Brittanie had been traveling a parallel path across state lines. She was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, where her father, Jaime Portillo, and her grandfather, Joe Portillo, ran State Farm agencies. The State Farm lineage was in her DNA, too.
“I grew up at my grandfather’s State Farm office in El Paso. That was my life,” Brittanie reflects. “It was where I went after school and where I hung out a lot.”
Brittanie attended the University of Texas at El Paso on a volleyball scholarship and received her degree in kinesiology in 2004. She coached high school volleyball for a few years before joining State Farm’s corporate team in Dallas, Texas. In 2011, she opened her own agency in Houston, Texas.
“Brittanie had set the world on fire as a new agent, setting all kinds of records. She was the pinnacle of new agents within our company,” Matt explains. “I was three years into my agency, and we both happened to qualify for that year’s incentive trip for a Mediterranean cruise. It was really cool that we both happened to be at the same place at the same time halfway around the world.”
Matt and Brittanie’s connection was instant. They got engaged on New Year’s Eve 2013 and married in October 2014. Brittanie moved her agency to Tulsa the following January, and they’ve been running their businesses side by side ever since.
Today, Matt and Brittanie run two of Oklahoma’s top agencies. They share an office, 12 fully licensed team members, and a vision. Their mutual support enables them to handle whatever challenges come their way.

“We have over 100 years of experience on our team. We have a lot of generational wisdom because this has been a generational business. That provides us with a knowing beyond our years.
