Behind the Camera

Six years ago, Matt Giesow got an idea stuck in his head: he wanted to create art through photography. While he didn’t initially intend to become a professional photographer, he became obsessed with his new craft. When he wasn’t working or with his family, you’d find Matt shooting photos and videos, editing his work, or devouring YouTube videos on the latest photography and videography techniques. Matt’s passion soon turned into a bonafide business.

“He threw himself in completely to the point where he was selling our furniture to start a business,” Matt’s wife and Vast Meda Co-Owner Jena Giesow recalls. “We both had other jobs for larger organizations, but soon, Vast Media was born.”

Vast Media was born on more than inspiration; there was also a divine element to its creation. Jenna recalls when Matt traveled to Africa to shoot photos and video for a mission. One evening, he attended an all-night revival. The leader called Matt out of the crowd and onto the stage, asking if he could pray for Matt. Then, without knowing anything about his career path, this man told Matt he sees a multimillion-dollar media company in his future.

“From that point on, Matt knew he had a calling to pick up a camera and create. That guy didn't know him and had no reference for what he was doing, but there it was,” Jenna continues. “Matt came home and was sure he wanted to pursue this.”

A Strong Foundation

Six years later, Matt, Jenna, and Vast Media are thriving. Since the company’s founding, Matt and Jenna have bootstrapped their way to excellence and success, and Vast  has quickly become one of Tulsa’s fastest-rising media companies.

“We’re going on six years now, and I've seen our goals come to pass and then some. We started from not even having a company to a team of 15 (at one point) and growing. We’re still growing, still figuring things out, and we’re still young. It’s been really cool,” Jenna shares.

Vast Media’s first specialty was real estate. While real estate photography and videography are a core part of their business, they’ve expanded into a full-service media company. In the real estate space, Vast Media offers 3D tours, virtual staging, real estate photos, video, drone photos and video, headshots, video production, social media management, and more.

“Real estate photography now makes up for about 50% of what we do,” Jenna continues. “We really are a full-service marketing consulting agency. We sit down with people, ask what they want to accomplish, and build brands. We do video production, content management, and social media for big-time names in Tulsa. We create top-notch marketing for brands and real estate agents.”

Vast Media’s marketing expertise allows them to provide more value to real estate agents than ever. When they shoot a listing, for example, they are helping that agent build a brand of excellence, not just sell a single home.

The Vast Vision

As Matt and Jenna reflect on their journey over the past six years, they marvel at how far Vast Media has come. And yet, they aspire to grow even more — building more long-term client relationships, serving more businesses, and becoming Tulsa’s go-to resource for all things media.

“We're really proud of the brand we've built. It's very well respected. Ultimately, we’d love to see our brand in multiple markets, cities, and states. Our brand exists to share your story, and we want to share as many stories as we can,” Jenna says.

On a more personal note, Matt and Jenna aspire to leave a legacy that outlasts them.

“I want to build a legacy my daughters are super proud of — that yes, Mom was successful, but she was also present, attentive, empathetic, that she was able to balance everything really well. That's the legacy I want to leave, giving them something where my ceiling is their floor so that they can stand on it.”

Outside Work

Matt and Jenna have two children, Charlee (4) and Goldie (1). They enjoy watching football, working out, boating on the lake, and relaxing at home together.
